Invisalign Aligners Wayland Cascade Coopersville MI Dentists

Have questions about Invisalign® aligners? You’ve come to the right place! Our Invisalign dentists in Wayland, Coopersville, and Cascade understand that you want to get all the facts so you can make an informed decision for your smile. That’s why we’ve set up this FAQ page to help you get started.

Here are the top questions we get about Invisalign aligner treatment. If you have a question that’s not listed here, please contact our office so you can schedule a consultation with one of our Invisalign dentists.

How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

During Invisalign treatment you will wear clear orthodontic aligners that are designed to exert constant but gentle pressure on your teeth. This pressure allows our Invisalign dentists to move your teeth in a way that’s safe, effective, and highly controlled. Over time, your teeth will move little by little into their final desired positions. Our dentists will have you change aligner sets every 1 to 2 weeks or as needed.

The aligners are made out of a clear, comfortable plastic and fit snugly over your teeth. As such, most people won’t even realize that you’re wearing your aligners unless you’re standing close. These aligners are also removable, which means you’ll be able to continue eating your favorite foods during treatment.

For your aligners to work, you’ll need to wear them 20 to 22 hours per day. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move according to schedule and you’ll prolong your treatment time. For this reason, Invisalign patients must be very disciplined during treatment so they can achieve the results they want.

Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?

You may be a candidate for Invisalign aligners if you have crooked and/or crowded teeth. Invisalign treatment can also correct bite issues, but you’ll need to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists to know if this option is right for you.

In general, we only recommend Invisalign treatment for teens or adults. This is because it requires a lot of motivation and discipline to wear aligners 20 to 22 hours per day.

Will I Have Dietary Restrictions During Invisalign Treatment?

No! Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you’ll be able to eat whatever you want during orthodontic treatment. This is much different from what you’d experience as a patient with traditional metal braces.

People with metal braces have to avoid foods that are sticky and/or hard to chew. Otherwise, they risk damaging their metal wires and brackets. This can result in an unscheduled trip to the dentist’s office.

How Long Do I Need to Wear Aligners?

The length of your treatment time will depend on the complexity of your case and how well you follow our instructions. For example, it’s vital that you wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours per day so that your teeth can move according to schedule. When you wear your aligners as directed, you could enjoy a straighter smile in as little as 6 months. Although, you’ll start noticing changes in your smile within a matter of weeks!

To know how long you’ll have to wear Invisalign clear aligners, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists.
