In the meantime, here’s what we recommend.

Consistently Wear Your Aligners

We understand the temptation to remove your clear aligners, but it’s important to remain diligent during orthodontic treatment. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move according to schedule.

Your clear aligners will only work when you wear them 20 to 22 hours per day. If you don’t wear your Invisalign aligners consistently, you risk falling behind on your treatment plan. You may also notice that your aligners feel tighter around your teeth.

Store Your Aligners in Their Case

The only time you should remove your aligners is if you’re brushing, flossing, eating, or drinking anything but water. Under these circumstances, we strongly recommend that you store your aligners in the case we give you. This will help protect your aligners so they don’t get bent, crushed, chewed by the family dog, or thrown into the trash. (Believe us; we’ve seen it happen!)

Brush Your Teeth After Meals

Always brush your teeth after eating or drinking anything but water to avoid staining your clear orthodontic aligners. To help you accomplish this task, we recommend that you carry a travel-sized toothbrush and tube of toothpaste with you while you’re at work, school, or on the go.

Say goodbye to gross, yellow aligners! This simple but powerful habit will help you stay on track with your orthodontic treatment and feel confident about your smile.

Don’t Clean Your Aligners in the Dishwasher

Hot water will warp your Invisalign clear aligners, which is why we don’t recommend that you boil them or run them through the dishwasher. Instead, we recommend rinsing and brushing your aligners every night. Use a designated toothbrush and gentle, clear liquid soap. Invisalign also sells several different cleaning products if you’re interested.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office if you have any questions about the Invisalign process.

Don’t Drink Hot Beverages with Aligners

As we’ve mentioned before, hot liquids will warp your clear plastic aligners. This applies to coffee, tea, and other hot beverages. Not only will a beverage like coffee warp your aligners, but it’ll also stain the plastic. Always remove your aligners before drinking anything but water.
