Our dentists in Greater Grand Rapids, MI, may recommend dental crowns to restore teeth with significant injury or decay. Once the dental crown procedure is complete, you’ll be able to smile with confidence again. However, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with Robinson Dental to learn if you’re a and how they can benefit your oral health.
In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about getting a.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that restores a badly decayed or otherwise damaged tooth. It does this by covering the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line, as shown in the diagram.
Dental crowns strengthen fragile teeth, restoring their full function and natural appearance.
What to Expect During Your Visits
First, we’ll numb your tooth and surrounding tissue so you don’t feel any pain during dental crown treatment. Once you’re numb and comfortable, we’ll file down the receiving tooth so there’s enough space for the crown to fit on top.
Next, your Greater Grand Rapids dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth and use a shade guide to select the best color match for your new crown. They’ll then send this information to the dental lab that will be responsible for creating your dental crown.
In the meantime, we’ll fit a temporary crown over your tooth. This will protect the tooth until we’re ready to place the permanent dental crown.
When you return to Robinson Dental for your second appointment, we’ll remove the temporary crown and replace it with the permanent one. Before bonding it in place, one of our dentists will ensure it’s the proper shade, size, and shape so it blends in with the rest of your teeth.
Once your new dental crown is placed, we’ll also check your bite to ensure the fit is snug, comfortable, and natural. The result is a brand-new smile you’ll be proud to show off to the world!
