Straighten Teeth with Invisalign® Braces

Invisalign® is an extremely popular and very effective form of straightening teeth.

These aligners are clear and virtually unnoticeable, allowing you to achieve perfectly aligned teeth gradually without feeling self-conscious about your smile. If Metal braces aren’t the way you want to straighten your teeth, Invisalign might be the answer.

About 57% of Americans cover their mouths when they laugh out of insecurity. Also, about 50% will almost always try to smile with their mouths closed. Invisalign® can help boost your self-esteem by giving you a more attractive smile.

What is Invisalign® and How Does it Work?

Invisalign treatment uses clear aligners to straighten your teeth over time. Our doctors use 3D modeling to develop your custom treatment plan. We then use impressions of your teeth to make these aligners for you. You’ll need to wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. This means you can remove them to chew your food or for special occasions, but you must wear them most of the time. We’ll then replace your aligners with a new set every one to two weeks. Little by little, the aligners will move your teeth into their final positions.

The average treatment time is about 12 months. But it’s important to remember that each patient is different.

It’s important to keep up with your oral hygiene routine during Invisalign treatment. Bacteria can get trapped in your aligners and make them look yellowed if they’re not cleaned regularly. Brush and floss your teeth in the morning and at night as well as after eating, and clean your aligners each time you clean your teeth.

What are the Benefits of Invisalign® Compared to Metal Braces?

Maybe you’ve wanted a straighter smile in the past, but you didn’t want to deal with traditional braces. Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional metal braces.

Invisalign® is Discreet

The most obvious benefit of using Invisalign is that your aligners are clear. Our culture tends to view braces as something only young people wear. Once you reach your 20s, 30s, 40s, and beyond, metal braces don’t help you exude that polished, professional look you need. Invisalign can straighten your smile without making you feel like you’re back in middle school.

Invisalign® Makes it Easy to Practice Good Oral Hygiene

The #1 complaint of people wearing traditional braces is it’s difficult to practice good oral hygiene. They must work around metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands when brushing. Food often gets caught in hard-to-reach areas covered by metal braces. With Invisalign, you can remove your aligners so you can brush and floss your teeth. Being able to remove your aligners also allows you to clean those hard-to-reach spots.

Invisalign® May Work Faster

If you want to increase your confidence with a new smile fast, then Invisalign may be right for you. In general, traditional metal braces take longer to close gaps and align teeth. But it all depends on the individual needs of the patient. Sometimes, there is no difference in treatment time.

Check out our blog post about the difference between Invisalign® and braces, and the benefits of choosing Invisalign® over metal braces.

Who is a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign is perfect for adults who are self-conscious about their teeth but don’t like the appearance of traditional metal braces. Depending on the severity of your bite issues, our dentist might recommend another form of orthodontia. Because of the diligence required to make Invisalign treatment work, aligners are not recommended for younger patients.

The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth! Not everyone qualifies for clear aligner therapy.

More Common Questions about Invisalign®

How Long is Invisalign® Treatment?

Invisalign treatment for adults usually takes about 12 months. Keep in mind that each patient has different orthodontic needs. In general, your treatment time will depend on your age and the condition of your teeth.

Our dentists use advanced computer imaging technology to plan your treatment.

How Much Does Invisalign® Cost?

Many factors determine the cost, including the length and difficulty of treatment. In general, the cost of Invisalign is like that of traditional braces. But it’s important to remember that each patient is different.

For an accurate estimate, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists.

How Often Must I See My Invisalign® Dentist?

You’ll need to see your dentist every four to six weeks during Invisalign treatment. During your appointment, we’ll make sure that your teeth are moving according to plan. Only then will you be able to receive your new set of Invisalign aligners.

Since you won’t have braces or brackets, visits are often shorter than if you had traditional braces.

How Long Do I Have to Wear Invisalign® Each Day?

To get the full benefit of Invisalign treatment, you’ll need to wear your aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day. This means that you should only remove your Invisalign aligners to eat, drink, brush, or floss.

Does Invisalign® Hurt?

Invisalign exerts pressure on your teeth. As such, you will experience some dental discomfort in the first couple of days of wearing a new set of aligners. But many of our patients feel that the temporary pain is worth having straighter teeth. After all, the pressure you feel on your teeth is a sign that they are moving according to plan.

We recommend taking over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen.

Are There Any Dietary Restrictions During Treatment?

No, there are no dietary restrictions. But you’ll need to brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back in your mouth.

How Can I Maintain a Straight Smile After Invisalign®?

It’s not uncommon for teeth to move a little after orthodontic treatment. This is why your dentist will create a special retainer for you to wear as directed.
